Year of the Dog
16 FEB - 3 MARCH
The KUR-World Great Barrier Reef Chinese New Year Festival’s Year of the Dog celebrations present a cohesive cultural experience for locals and visitors alike, offering cultural performances, food experiences and activities designed to encourage people from diverse backgrounds to come together and celebrate.
Over the 14 days, we invite you to enjoy the citywide festivities from historic China Town - Grafton Street, Reef Hotel Casino, the Cairns Museum, Kick Arts, Orchid Plaza and Cairns Aquarium.
Chinese New Year is always a time of great joy and excitement, and enormous goodwill.
In Cairns, Chinese New Year celebrations are always very special and 2018’s Year of the Dog will be one to be heralded.
Celebrating this city’s wonderful multicultural pedigree, the KUR-World Great Barrier Reef Chinese New Year Festival is an opportunity for all of Cairns to celebrate this age-old culture.
Revel in the spectacular fireworks that will illuminate Trinity Inlet to ring in the new year, Cairns will come alive with firecrackers, feasts and fiery dragons combined with many other cultural delights.
With tremendous support from government and businesses based on a unified and cohesively branded Festival, GBRCNY efforts will bring to life the whole of Cairns during this important multicultural festival period.
So, welcome to a delightful melding of heritage, culture and hospitality from 8 February to 3rd March 2018.
